Asian immigrant parents have trouble accepting their gay children because of negative ideologies about LGBT people internalized from their homeland culture. Also, they lack access to a particular language to articulate the nuances of their LGBT children’s experiences and identities. The author provides suggestions for how Asian parents should address the transition period when their children come out of the closet.
