Welcoming Dr. Richard Pan to the AAPI Data Team
AAPI Data is growing and we’re excited to announce the first new addition to our team: Dr. Richard Pan, former California State Senator. We’re excited to draw on Dr. Pan’s wealth of policy and research expertise to further expand and improve our policy impact.
Dr. Richard Pan is a pediatrician, former UC Davis faculty and former State Senator representing the Sacramento region. He is the first Asian American to represent the City of Sacramento in the California legislature, where the Transcontinental Railroad began over 150 years ago. Dr. Pan is Immediate Past-Chair of the Asian American Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (AAPILC) and was Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Asian Pacific Islander Affairs and Co-Chair of the Senate Select Committee on the 2020 U.S. Census. As AAPILC Chair, Dr. Pan led passage of the $165 million API Equity Budget in 2021. Dr. Pan authored legislation to establish the state Racial Equity Commission; prohibit discrimination by business establishments on the basis of citizenship, primary language, and immigration status; and championed Medi-Cal coverage for all low-income undocumented Californians by 2024.

Deputy Director
Works in close coordination with the co-directors, senior researchers, staff of AAPI Data, as well as partners that include community organizations, research centers, government agencies, private philanthropy, and news organizations. The Deputy Director is responsible for coordinating operations, designing and implementing strategic plans that include fundraising, budgeting, and personnel allocation, and supervising the work of staff engaged in a variety of projects and initiatives. Senior Research Analyst
Working in close coordination with the deputy director, co-directors, senior researchers, staff of AAPI Data, as well as partners that include community organizations, research centers, government agencies, private philanthropy, and news organizations, the AAPI Data Senior Research Analyst is responsible for managing and conducting research and data analysis for a variety of projects and initiatives. Research Analyst
Working in close coordination with the deputy director, co-directors, senior researchers, and senior research analyst, the AAPI Data Research Analyst is responsible for conducting research and data analysis for a variety of projects and initiatives. Learn more.
Internship and Community Partnership Coordinator
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and AAPI Data Managing Director, the Internship and Community Partnership Coordinator designs and implements programs that involve student and mid-career internship opportunities at AAPI Data, as well as partnerships with community organizations across the United States. The Internship and Community Partnership Coordinator provides administrative support and provides analytical support of moderate scope and complexity to address a variety of policy, research and procedural challenges. This position plans and manages events including large public events, stakeholder trainings, workshops and convenings. In this role, the Internship and Community Partnership Coordinator communicates with external audiences including individual correspondence, email campaigns, and social media activity. Learn more.

Internship and Community Partnership Coordinator
AAPI Data’s reputation—among journalists, government agencies, community organizations, and scholars—is built on data, research, and narratives that are accurate, compelling, and timely. Over the next few months, the team expects to add four new full-time staff members that will enable the program to better serve community organizations, policy makers, journalists, researchers, and the general public. Since 2018, the program has organized its work along the principles of DNA: Data, Narrative, Action, aiming for meaningful improvements in policies, practices, and investments that serve AAPI communities.
